This project will meet the following California teaching standards: 8th History standards: • 8.4 Analyze the aspirations and dreams of a New Nation • 8.4.1 Describe the country's physical landscapes and territorial expansion during the terms of the first four presidents. • 8.8 Analyze the divergent paths of the American people from the West from 1800 to the mid-1800s and the challenges they faced. • 8.8.2Describe the purpose, challenges and economic incentives associated with westward expansion, including the concept of Manifest Destiny …. and territorial expansion. • 8.8.4 Examine the importance of the great rivers and the struggle over water rights.
