WEEK ONE:
ï Introduce literature choices to class.
ï Students choose which book they would like to read.
ï Students participate in guided reading groups/book clubs & discuss nuances
of chosen book.
ï Students practice reading skills such as prediction, sequence of events, plot
development, compare/contrast storylines, cause/effect relationships, and connection
to real life experiences and prior knowledge.
ï Introduce students to PowerPoint software. Allow students to practice creating
slides, adding text and animation.
WEEK TWO:
ï Students continue reading books and meet with book clubs/guided
reading groups.
ï Students continue to focus on reading skills outlined in week one.
ï Students continue tutorials on PowerPoint. They are expected to experiment
with text and animation. They begin to learn how to import graphics off of the
Internet.
ï Primary students begin filling out storyboards for PowerPoint projects in
guided reading groups.
ï Primary students meet in collaborative groups (guided reading groups) to discuss
student roles (such as encourager, recorder, reporter, & time keeper) for
project.
WEEK THREE:
ï Students finish the books they have selected for book clubs/guided
reading groups.
ï Students are introduced to their Response to Literature Project using PowerPoint
and view sample projects.
ï Expectations and grading rubrics are reviewed with students.
ï Primary students continue filling out storyboards for PowerPoint projects.
ï Upper grade students meet in collaborative groups to discuss student roles
for project.
ï Upper grade students begin written narratives and filling out storyboards
for PowerPoint projects.
WEEK FOUR:
ï Students continue to meet with collaborative groups to monitor
project goals and student deadlines.
ï Students self-reflect on progress of project.
ï Primary students finish storyboards and begin PowerPoint projects.
ï Primary students finish Slide 1 and Slide 2 in PowerPoint program.
ï Upper grade students continue written narratives and filling out storyboards
for PowerPoint projects.
ï Upper grade students finish Slide 1 through Slide 4 in PowerPoint program.
WEEK FIVE:
ï Students continue to meet with collaborative groups to monitor
project goals and student deadlines.
ï Students self-reflect on progress of project.
ï Primary students finish Slide 3 through Slide 6 in PowerPoint program.
ï Upper grade students continue written narratives and filling out storyboards
for PowerPoint projects.
ï Upper grade students finish Slide 5 through Slide 8 in PowerPoint program.
WEEK SIX:
ï Students continue to meet with collaborative groups to monitor
project goals and student deadlines.
ï Students self-reflect on progress of project.
ï Primary students finish Slide 7 through Slide 9 in PowerPoint program.
ï Upper grade students continue written narratives and filling out storyboards
for PowerPoint projects.
ï Upper grade students finish Slide 9 through Slide 12 in PowerPoint program.
WEEK SEVEN:
ï Students turn in written narratives and present power point
projects to large group.
ï Students evaluate peers on rubrics.
ï Teacher evaluates students on rubrics.
